is a one page website good for new authors?

One page websites are increasing in popularity as mobile reading increases, people are more used to scrolling and are happy to read from a landing page.

A simple, elegant website is better than no website at all.

In fact, a thoughtfully designed single page can absolutely do the job—especially in the early stages of your writing career. It can introduce you to readers, show off your book(s), and give people a way to connect and stay in touch with you.

If your book isn’t yet published — or you haven’t finished your manuscript — you might wonder how an author website can help you.

Your website is a living representation of you. You can absolutely start small and build as you grow, and in my view, this is the best way to avoid getting overwhelmed.

The fact that you’re thinking about a website is a great sign that you’re aware of the need as an author to take control of your own career, build and audience and market your book. You might also choose to publish a simple one page website to tell the world you are a writer. It’s all about setting yourself up for the future as this first page can grow and evolve with you.

“First things first: an author’s website, whether it gets much traffic or not, is foundational to your career.”

~ Jane Friedman

As we tend to scroll on mobile, a one page website can fit the bill if you are starting out or write under a pen name and want to keep a low profile.

One of the biggest mistakes that authors make is leaving it too close to a book release before beginning to build a platform. It takes time to build an audience and doing anything in a mad panic can be stressful - however, I work in publishing and have seen it many times!

I have also seen authors who already have a platform and who have established themselves get a better deal, and sometimes a faster deal than those who are new to the outside world. It’s easy to get so bogged down working to a deadline that its hard to think of taking on another project.

This is where I come in. Let me take that stress away from you so you can get on with what you love - writing.

Book a free discovery call today and tell me about your work and what your dreams are.. I’m listening.
