How to sell more books

If you already have a website and need a few tweaks, booking the hourly sessions will be ideal.

Just as your book needs a professional second opinion from an editor before it is published, it can be hard to spot the opportunities and pitfalls on your own author website.

If you have an existing Squarespace website and you’d like to give it an Audit and a professional polish, booking a few hours for a refresh might be a great choice for you. I call these ‘Fun Fridays’. The visual aspects of your website is tested from a reader perspective, as well as background testing to make sure your SEO and running speeds are what they should be. You can also add any new books or updates you wish to your bio or add your Substack for example.

IN THE MEANTIME...

Why not undertake your own simple audit?

  1. Make sure your copyright year at the bottom is this year.

  2. Check your social media links still work.

  3. Sign up for your own freebie or join your own mailing list.

  4. Ask a friend (who is not in your contacts) to do a simple search for you and your books, and see how soon you are ‘found’.

  5. Check your book links to buy go to the correct pages. Sometimes stores like Waterstones for Barnes and Noble take down pages so your link goes to a 404 error page.

It is important to spend time reading your own content. Only you know it well.

Put some time aside to go through each page of your website. Read through your key pages, your bio, blog pages, and any other content you have on the website.

Make a list of any errors you see, and also anything you want to add. It needs to be new to keep it relevant for Google so add content frequently, no matter how small.

If you have a new book coming out, or doing a talk, or even visiting your local store, add that too.

Let your readers and supporters know where they can find you, and how to get in touch.
